Lenten Fast and Abstinence

Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence of meat. Catholics of good health, between the ages of 18 and 60, are to fast. At a minimum, three meals would be the usual amount of food for two meals. There is no eating between meals. All Catholics over the age of 14 are to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, and on the Fridays of Lent.

“Give alms…Pray to God…Fast without a gloomy face…” (Mt 6:1-18)
